DirectSound Xtra is a Scripting Xtra which enables the use of Microsoft's DirectSound API in Director and Authorware applications. The DirectSound API provides low-latency mixing, hardware acceleration and direct access to sound devices.

DirectSound Xtra is available for Director 5 and above, Authorware 4 and above, and is compatible with Windows 9X and newer (including 2000, ME, NT, XP) and with all versions of DirectX.
 

By using DirectSound Xtra, you can mix as many sounds as you want, get and change the sound's position, volume, panning and frequency, and also control 3D sounds and retrieve the hardware capabilities of the sound card.

Shockwave compatible and safe version of DirectSound Xtra is available to all registered users upon request.

You can test-drive the Xtra, by downloading an amazing demo which demonstrates some of the Xtra functions. This demo implements the DirectSound Xtra by allowing you to mix up to 6 channels with volume, panning and frequency control. You will also be able to manipulate the 3D position of two of the audio channels. And if that's not enough, we threw in a "Record and Play" keyboard filled with major league drum samples.
